Key Stage 3

In Key stage 3 pupils cover the traditional foundation skills of Art and Design  developing skills in use of colour, tone and observational drawing. Pupils also have the opportunity to develop Photoshop, animation and 3D work.

Key Stage 4

In Key Stage 4, pupils follow the WJEC Art and Design course. This requires 60% coursework and 40% exam. The exam is undertaken in the spring term of year 11. Pupils are encouraged to work independently upon a given theme and produce an imaginative skilful personal response. Areas of artistic practice are covered ranging from the traditional 3D, print making, painting and drawing to creative use of ICT.

The course is internally assessed and externally moderated by the WJEC in the summer term.

AS and A Level

Pupils in year 12 sit one unit to develop their practical skills and undertake a personal journey to discover new ideas, concepts and develop their own practical skills. No exam is sat at AS which is coursework only. This is internally assessed and externally moderated by the WJEC in the summer term. 

Year 13 undertake a personally lead project which covers a practical unit and written component. An exam is sat in the spring term. This is internally assessed and externally moderated by the WJEC in the summer term.

The department also run a number of extra curricular clubs and visits.
