Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is built around a simple belief: every young person deserves to feel valued, challenged and inspired.  Learning at our school is purposeful, inclusive and rooted in real experiences that help pupils understand themselves, their community and the wider world.

We want every learner to leave us confident in who they are, equipped with the knowledge and skills they need, and ready to thrive in a changing world.

The Four Purposes

The Four Purposes sit at the heart of everything we do.  They guide our planning, our teaching and the experiences we offer.  We aim for all learners to become:

Ambitious, capable learners who are curious, resilient and ready for lifelong learning.

Enterprising, creative contributors who can think critically, solve problems and express themselves confidently.

Ethical, informed citizens who understand their identity, respect others and engage with local, national and global issues.

Healthy, confident individuals who are secure in themselves and able to make positive choices for their well-being.

These purposes shape the culture of out school and the journey every learner takes with us.

How Learning is Organised

Our curriculum is structured through the six Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs):

  • Languages, Literacy and Communication

  • Mathematics and Numeracy

  • Science and Technology

  • Health and Well-being

  • Expressive Arts

  • Humanities

Within and across these areas, learners experience rich, connected learning that helps them make sense of the world and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Skills for Life

Literacy, numeracy and digital competence are woven through all learning.  These skills help pupils communicate effectively, use numbers with confidence and navigate an increasingly digital world.

They are essential foundations for success in school, work and life.

What learning Looks Like Here

Our curriculum is designed to be:

  • Inclusive - meeting the needs of every learner, including those with ALN

  • Engaging - offering real-life contexts, creativity and problem-solving

  • Progressive - building knowledge and skills over time in a purposeful way

  • Rooted in voice - shaped by learner interests, feedback and aspirations

  • Connected to our community - drawing on local heritage, culture and partnerships

We want learning to feel exciting, relevant and joyful.

A Curriculum That Evolves

Our curriculum is continually reviewed and refined.  We listen to learners and families, reflect on what works, and adapt our approaches to ensure our provision remains ambitious, responsive and forward-looking.

This is a shared journey - one that involves learners, staff, governors, parents, carers and the wider community working together to give every learner the best possible experience.
